Sam Smith Autobiography

Sam Smith, truly a legend in his own time, was born in New York City in 1967, and moved to California at the age of six, where he has lived ever sice.

He first discovered the wonderful world of creative indulgence, when he was in his mother's womb and bored out of his skull. He couldn't wait to get his hands on some Magic Markers so he could get straight to work. Unfortunately, some urgent matters demanded his attention upon entering That Other World, such as learning to walk, talk and blow saliva bubbles. Once he got the hang of things, he would take every chance he got to draw. But because he was born with Optic Nerve Atrophy, the ink did tend to get on his nose a bit. However, that didn't stop him.

His earliest work shows a preoccupation with breathing, as well as motocycles and Godzilla. In time, he would come to draw other stuff too.

When his parents informed him he'd have to start going to school, he was outraged, and only agreed to go for a little while.

He learned to read and write using a closed-circuit television system, (CCTV) which enlarges ordinary sized print. Later, he would use the CCTV to do his artwork.

"He is also a musician. Drawing and music feed off each other, so that an image may provide the title for a song, or help illustrate the lyrics, and vice versa."

About his work, he wastes few words. "I like color", he says, "it looks good."

As Peter Max has said, "Sam Smith may be partially sighted, but his sense of design and his sense of humor make him one of the most interesting and creative artists on the scene today."
